KULCHA Symposium Presenter, Abdon Tzib: Culture photo-journaling

Born and raised in the Beautiful Yucatec Mayan Village of San Antonio, Cayo District.

In my work I try to show the beauty, the strength and enthusiasm of people. My recent focus has been to work directly with the Mayan culture, documenting their lifestyle, saving these precious moments that can't be accessed easily by the larger audience.

My work has taken me to interesting places and have met amazing people along the way. I look for a sense of understanding and time-less narratives in my images.

About the Presentation

Thematic Session: Creative Arts & Belizean Heritage - September 3rd, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM (UTC-6:00)

Communication is the means of sharing information and spreading knowledge. Photography is the means of communicating with people visually. People understand messages differently from each other. A good image on the other hand will always portray the same message to everyone. Many of the opportunities for good photos are available but the subject needs to trust the photographer. Being able to engage in a comfortable conversation is one of the opportunities that allow us to capture these moments and be able to get personal with the subjects. The photographer has only one opportunity to capture these images. The results are breathtaking when one foresees the end product while shooting. Photography is very important in documenting the people and their activities for a long time. Ultimately, the pictures have the ability to provoke one’s emotion and spend more time looking at the story.
